The Spirit Bares Its Teeth

by Andrew Joseph White

I would compare this to [b:Iron Widow|52459864|Iron Widow (Iron Widow, #1)|Xiran Jay Zhao|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1710540125l/52459864.SY75.jpg|77901205] in terms of general approach and subtlety of writing. The bisexuals were a little less chaotic, and neurodivergence & mental illness take a more central role. The trans characters both have 100% social dysphoria and 0% physical dysphoria, which is real but not personally relatable. Given the context, a small annoyed part of me reads that as "look here, these are The Most Politically Correct Genders." That authorial choice also has more weight considering the main character's deep interest in surgery. :/

It's angsty and a little explainy, but in a YA-appropriate way? I don't know, it wasn't a masterpiece, but I enjoyed it.
