Ink and Bone (The Great Library, #1)
by Rachel Caine
Took me about two chapters to get into this, but then I devoured the rest of it. Alternate history with alchemy and a high body count. Jess is a patronizing shitbag to the woman he likes, in a way that the narrative doesn't really acknowledge, but it's otherwise fairly diverse. I do want to read the next book(s).
The main thing I disliked was the fetishization of ink and paper ("real") books. It makes sense for the characters' backgrounds and experiences, but I read this as an ebook and I don't feel deprived. LOL.
