Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1)

by Rachel Hawkins

A fast, frictionless read was exactly what I wanted, and Hex Hall delivered. Derivative, but managed to pull off not just one but several nice plot twists and reversals. For one, I doubted the author was going to go the Mean Girls route with the mean girls, so I was pleasantly surprised. It would've been improved by cutting the universally unredeemed and universally pointless faerie girls, though.

I also have to award a point for the MC's lesbian best friend. I imagine there's fanfic about the two of them... it's too bad that, two days out, I can't remember either of their names.

I could see myself picking up the sequel the next time I'm feeling utterly lazy.
